Monemvasia ist eine griechische Kleinstadt, die im Byzantinischen Reich bedeutender Stützpunkt und Festung war. Sie liegt auf einem Felsen vor der Küste Lakoniens im Südosten der Halbinsel Peloponnes. Die Gemeinde Monemvasia wurde zuletzt 2011 durch die Eingemeindung von vier Nachbargemeinden erheblich vergrößert. Der Verwaltungssitz wurde dabei von der Stadt Monemvasia nach Molai, der größten Siedlung in der Gemeinde, verlegt.
Mystras bzw. Mistra ist eine als UNESCO-Weltkulturerbestätte ausgewiesene byzantinische Ruinenstadt in der Nähe des gleichnamigen Dorfes in Griechenland, nordwestlich von Sparta auf einem Hügel im Vorfeld des Taygetos-Gebirges.
Der Begriff Akropolis (Oberstadt), auch Akropole genannt, bezeichnet im ursprünglichen Sinn den zu einer antiken griechischen Stadt gehörenden Burgberg beziehungsweise die Wehranlage, die zumeist auf der höchsten Erhebung nahe der Stadt erbaut wurde. Die Akropolis von Athen ist die bekannteste der Welt.
Monastiraki ist ein Flohmarktviertel in der Altstadt von Athen, Griechenland, und ist eines der wichtigsten Einkaufsviertel in Athen. Die Gegend beherbergt Bekleidungsboutiquen, Souvenirläden und Fachgeschäfte und ist eine bedeutende Touristenattraktion in Athen und Attika für Schnäppchenkäufe. Der Ort ist nach dem Monastiraki-Platz benannt, der nach der Kirche des Pantanassa benannt ist, die sich auf dem Platz befindet. Die Hauptstraßen dieser Gegend sind die Pandrossou-Straße und die Adrianou-Straße.
Das Archäologische Nationalmuseum in Athen ist vor allem der griechischen Antike gewidmet und gilt als wichtigste Sammlung von Kunstwerken und Gebrauchsgegenständen jener Zeit. Die 11.000 ausgestellten Objekte stammen aus allen Regionen Griechenlands, da alle wichtigen Funde bis ins 20. Jahrhundert ausschließlich dorthin gebracht wurden. Darüber hinaus gibt es eine Sammlung von Exponaten ägyptischer Kunst. Es ist das meistbesuchte Museum der Stadt.
Der Tempel des Poseidon ist ein antiker griechischer Tempel am Kap Sounion, Griechenland, der dem Gott Poseidon gewidmet ist. Bereits im 11. Jahrhundert v. Chr. gibt es Hinweise auf die Errichtung von Heiligtümern am Kap. Es wird jedoch angenommen, dass die bekanntesten Tempel von Sounion, der Tempel der Athene und der Tempel des Poseidon, erst um 700 v. Das Material und die Größe der Opfergaben im Tempel des Poseidon weisen darauf hin, dass er wahrscheinlich von Mitgliedern der Elite und der aristokratischen Klasse besucht wurde.
Das Odeon des Herodes Atticus ist ein antikes Theater am Fuß des Akropolis-Felsens in Athen. Das Theater wurde von Herodes Atticus gestiftet und fasst 5000 Zuschauer. Es wird seit den 1930er Jahren wieder regelmäßig für Veranstaltungen genutzt und ist der Hauptschauplatz des Athener Festivals.
Das Akropolismuseum (griechisch Μουσείο Ακρόπολης Mousio Akropolis) ist ein Museum in Athen. Es verwahrt ausschließlich Fundstücke und Objekte von der Akropolis von Athen und hat rund 5 Mio. Besucher im Jahr.[1] Das heutige Gebäude am Fuß der Akropolis wurde von Bernard Tschumi und Michalis Fotiadis entworfen und am 20. Juni 2009 eröffnet.
Der Lykabettus (neugriechisch Λυκαβηττός Lykavittós, Aussprache [likaviˈtɔs], altgriechisch Lykabēttós, lateinisch Lycabettus, deutsch „Wolfsberg“[1]) ist der Stadtberg Athens.
Dem Mythos nach hat Athene diesen Berg nach Athen gebracht, „um einen Schutzwall vor der Akropolis zu errichten,“[2] und dort fallen gelassen.
Mit seiner Höhe von 277 m[3] ist er die höchste Erhebung im Stadtzentrum und bietet damit eine gute Aussicht auf die Sehenswürdigkeiten Athens. Bei guten Sichtverhältnissen lässt sich von hier aus der ganze Großraum Athen und seine Kessellage zwischen Gebirgszügen und dem Saronischen Golf im Süden überblicken.
Delphi, ursprünglich Pytho (Πυθώ) genannt, war eine Stadt im antiken Griechenland, die vor allem für ihr Orakel bekannt war. Seit 1987 gehören die Ausgrabungen von Delphi zur Liste des Weltkulturerbes der UNESCO.
Westlich der Ruinen des antiken Delphi befindet sich die moderne Kleinstadt Delfi.
